The 3-2-1 Nightly Routine

A Simple Way to End Your Day with Purpose

At the end of each day, I like to take a few moments for a practice that has helped me wind down and prepare for tomorrow—the 3-2-1 method. It’s a quick and simple routine I picked up from another coach, and it’s proven to be an effective way to close the day with reflection and focus.

Here’s what it looks like:

  • 3 Wins: I start by writing down three wins from the day. These wins don’t have to be major; they could be small victories, like completing a task I’d been putting off or having a productive conversation. This helps me end the day on a positive note and recognize the progress I’m making.
  • 2 Gratitude’s: Next, I list two things I’m grateful for. Practicing gratitude allows me to reflect on the good things in my life, even on the most challenging days. It’s a way to stay grounded and appreciative, which has a calming effect as the day comes to a close.
  • 1 Thing for Tomorrow: Finally, I choose one important thing I want to focus on tomorrow. Having this task in mind helps me start the next day with intention, giving me a sense of purpose and direction as soon as I wake up.

This entire process only takes a few minutes, but it sets the tone for a restful evening and a more productive day ahead. It’s a simple yet powerful way to reflect, unwind, and get organized for tomorrow.

So, if you're seeking a meaningful way to close out your day and lay the groundwork for tomorrow, I encourage you to give the 3-2-1 method a try. You might just find it becomes a valuable part of your nightly routine.
