From day one, education was my lifeline. My parents encouraged and inspired me to learn, even when money was tight, and there were moments I couldn’t afford what school demanded. I remember filling out scholarship applications late into the night, hoping someone would see my potential. I worked school lunches and odd jobs just to make ends meet, carrying notebooks that were worn at the edges but full of ambition. Each challenge lit a fire in me — a refusal to let circumstance define my future.

I grew up in Ohio, just across the border from Pittsburgh, where Andrew Carnegie built steel — and libraries that outlived him. Those early struggles made me notice the power of mentors and opportunity.

I was inspired by Marc Victor Hansen, who said at a seminar, “You can build a library and change thousands of lives.”   That idea hit me like a lightning bolt and never left me — the right guidance and resources can change everything.
